Hi everyone. I am a newbie here. I have been a Johnny fan for quite awhile but last night was the first time seeing him live and it sure won't be the last. What an amazing man and show. I am now sending in my fan club registration. I have a request for anyone who was at the show last night. I was the very lucky lady whose lap Johnny sat on during the show. My husband noticed that quite a few people around us were taking photos and I am pleading that if anyone has a photo of my amazing moment I would be ever so greatful if anyone could email me and share it with me. And I am apolozing to everyone for my singing. Thanks ever so much. |

Hey Marg! Wow - so you were the lucky lady?? I didn't myself get a photo, although I did try. I was in the 4th row and a little to far to get the picture. I do know that I saw one on Johnny's facebook page, so perhaps you could find your photo that way! You are such a great sport and I am so thrilled to hear that you are joining the Tartan Army. Way to go! |

I heard Darlin on the radio on day and loved it....Me and a girlfriend bought the CD and it was amazing. He was great. Then i found out he was coming to the Massey Hall. I was soooooo excited. I love country & have been to many concerts..But this one VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!! It started out that i found him very very cocky . The way he looked with the over done highlights, the tie and vest and white shoes????? no country there. Then some girl tried to give him a rose and he didn't even acknowledge her!!!!She had to hold the rose there for 5 mins before she put it down. It was so arrogant and rude. Even people at the intermission were talking about it so i was not alone. It was boring, and music sounds way better on CD and he talked way too much and you can't even understand what he is saying....I left after the intermison and as if he really needed a break since it was more exciting to watch paint dry!!!!Sorry this was my first and last concert from Johnny Reid....VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!! |

I have seen Johnny 6 times in the past 8 months and at every concert the crowds are amazed with him. He is truly an amasing performer, song writer, singer, and person and he has 2 gold records to prove it. I have met him 3 times and he is the most down to earth person and sweet guy you'll ever meet. If you never see him again it is truly..............your loss. |

Now hold on a minute!! Before you make a post, you should get your facts straight!! The concert was NOT at Massey Hall...it was the Danforth Music Hall! You found him cocky???? Not a chance! He is so humble and appreciates his fans so much!! And where does it state all country performers must wear a hat /cowboy shirt/boots to be country??? And as for the girl with the rose...lol...she was not there 5 mins...try about a minute....Johnny was pretty zoned in on singing at the time and to me it appeared he just didn't notice she was standing there....unfortunately. Too bad you left at the break.....the best was yet to come! He played for about an hour...if not a bit more. As for not understanding him...blame the sound system...not him! It appeared that the sound people made some corrections during intermission and it was a bit better, but some venues seem to have sound problems. I have found the Molson Amphitheatre to have issues as well. It's too bad you were so disappointed! I was blown away by the show and can't wait for the next on!

Thank you Cindy for the correction on the venue...I am from Sask, but know there is quite a difference between Massey Hall and the Danforth!!! I refrained from stating my opinion, but here I am!!!~~~First of all Johnny has never ever said that he is a Country singer. It is the lyrics of his songs that puts him in the country genre...his songs tell a story!! His clothes style is his signature...he is a very sharp + respectful dresser!! He doesn't need to wear snappin tight wranglers hiked up to his armpits with a huge belt buckle. He is a married man with 3 small boys...he sets a good example ...the tie shows respect for his family...he doesn't need to wear a cowboy shirt unbuttoned down to his belt buckle to sell tickets to his shows!!! The white shoes are very unique, which definately is his signature....I am sure Alice will state her opinion on those white gems...lol.~~I flew in from Sask to meet up with my best friend that I met through Johnny and his music. The Danforth show was my 6th show in less than 3 wks...must add that all those shows were sell outs!!! One venue holds 900 peeps and it sold out in less than 11 mins. Yes every venue is different, but its the same genuine and humble young man that gets on stage. I found the sound system at the Danforth was somewhat poor compared to others but chalked it up to it being an older facility.~~I agree with Cindy ...the video I have with the lady with the rose was not standing there for 5 mins...gd grief his songs are not even 5 mins long!!! On my video it shows it was bad timing on her part....Johnny just missed her walking up...had nothing to do with being him rude!!!!~~ Sorry you found there was too much talking but that was part of the concept of the tour...he takes the time to talk about how and why he wrote the songs. If you pay attention its a good way to get to know who Johnny really is!!! If Johnny performance compares to paint drying.....then holy crow I could watch paint dry all day and night!!! He doesnt strap himself down to guitar and stand in one spot for the whole show...now thats boring!!! He is very high energy and loves to interact with the crowd throughout the show..~~ Maybe you should have stayed for the 2nd half of the show to witness this humble young man accept a gold record for his "Born to Roll" album. He graciously accepted the award....then he set it down in a safe spot on stage...came back to the crowd and said he really appreciates the actual award, but in reality he said " they could not give me a 100 of those, instead of what I have here right now in front of me"...as he gestures to the warm supportive crowd!!!!~~I truly think you have confused this young mans true passion and confidence in what he does for a living, which is to sing his songs as you call it "COCKY" If this man was so COCKY he would not know the names of 100s of fans names like he does from all across Canada....he also is backed by an incredible band who are wonderful individuals.~~Everyone is allowed to have an opinion and that is why I stated mine.~~Johnny and his music has impacted so many of our lives and its really too bad one had to judge him so quickly!! Thanks for listening and take care. |

Faith, This forum is a celebration of Johnny Reid, his music and his life. A place where friends come to meet, share memories and make friends. You have a right to your opinion and, although, this is an open forum I feel your opinion is hurtful to many and didn't need to voiced here. If you don't enjoy Johnny Reid and his music, don't go see him again but let others form there own opinions of what Johnny means to them. As Susan has said, Johnny has never called himself a "country singer" he has a style of his own. There is no denying the power of his voice or the quality of his songwriting and he is a very kind man. I, too, have been to many concerts...I'm talking into the 300's and I put Johnny's performance on Saturday night, at the Danforth, in my top 3...right alongside Reba McIntyre and Bruce Springsteen. Oh my, Faith. I cannot believe we were at the same show seeing the same person. I thought Danforth was an amazing show, and there was supposed to be talking, explaining the songs and where the ideas came from....that was the "Breaking It Down" part of the show. This is the first negative, unkind words I have heard about Johnny and his performances. I have had the pleasure to meet with him quite a few times and always have found him to be so nice, kind, humble and gracious. I don't think it's fair to judge him by his clothes, shoes, hair or accent.....that makes it more of an attack than an opinion. Johnny has described himself as a soul singer whose lyrics happen to fit into the country genre and never has called himself a country singer. Either way, you don't need a hat and boots to be a country singer either. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the show.....what you see as Cocky...I see as confidence and style. What you saw as rude....I saw as bad timing...and she wasn't there for 5 minutes. I'm not sure what you were expecting....but it sounds like you didn't give the show much of a chance from the minute you saw what he was wearing and his hairstyle. I have attended many, many Johnny Reid shows and to me, they just keep getting better and better, and I cannot wait until the next one.

Faith, we are all entitled to our opinions on the Tartan Army forum, but as Pam said, this forum is a place to come on and celebrate Johnny, his music, his success and most of all, his friendship with all of us.
I often say that I love Johnny like a brother, and because of that, I can’t read your post and keep my yap shut.
First of all, Johnny performed at Danforth Music Hall, not Massy Hall. I will add that Johnny has performed at Massy Hall. He opened for Dwight Yoakam and did a stellar performance. Standing ovations all the way around that tour!
From my vantage point, your friend was not standing with a rose for anywhere near 5 minutes. I saw her come down the aisle and if she stood there for 15 seconds, that would be pushing it. Johnny was singing his heart out, was bent over and had his eyes closed. Something he often does when he’s getting right into his music. He is a true professional and performs meticulously. It was a case of bad timing because had Johnny seen your friend, he would have graciously accepted the rose. To say that he ignored her is completely false and unfair to him. You should have noticed that when he did see the rose on the stage, he carefully took it and placed it behind him to keep it in a safe spot.
Johnny is about the furthest thing from “COCKY.” Johnny is one of the most caring and personable people I have ever met. He is so far from being arrogant.
To comment on his look is being completely disrespectful as well. You don’t know enough about Johnny to have the right to comment on that. His look is “his look” and shouldn’t be commented on. I for one LOVE his white shoes. He knows that and everyone else in the TA knows that! ;) They are his signature shoes since winning the “Rising Star Award” in 2006 at the CCMA’s. To comment on them shows your complete ignorance.
Johnny has never said he is a country star. He sings from his heart and soul and his style is his own. His song writing and story telling places him in the Country Genre, but he has never claimed to be a country artist. He doesn’t need tight jeans, or cowboy hats and apparel to sing from his heart. His tie, vest, jeans are all his unique styling, so to rudly comment on that is just that…. RUDE. My gosh…to say he has overdone highlights is very disrespectful too. He looks after himself and always looks great! He could have blue hair and I’d still think his music was amazing.
Ignorance shines through when you speak of his Scottish brogue as well. Again, that is all part of his uniqueness. He can’t make the accent go away, just as someone who stutters can’t make that go away. That was a very disrespectful and hurtful comment and Johnny did not deserve to have that placed on his site.
You missed the entire concept of his show. The Breaking It Down part was his opportunity to speak of the songs and the meaning behind them. It’s really sad you didn’t stay until the end to hear him sing some of his most heart wrenching songs. Perhaps you would have been able to get to know him a little more and see what Johnny is really all about.
If listening to Johnny is like watching paint dry, then I’m going to buy me some paint cans! |

I was shocked to say the least at your comments. I have yet to read the comments by fellow TA members but came straight here to type my own 1st as I didn`t want to be persuaded by others' views.
I`m sorry you had a bad experience at the Sat. evening concert since it appeared that you enjoyed Johnny`s music previously.
I disagree that the live performance is not up to par with the cd. The live aspect shows interaction with the crowd, interaction between singer and band, you get to hear the stories behind the songs and you get a whole lot more. Johnny`s shows are entertaining to say the least!! I love the raw aspect, ALL THE BETTER TO HEAR JOHNNY`S VOICE. I don`t enjoy you cutting down someone`s accent, hair style or dress code, that is beyond rude. Each person is individual and his style is unique....and something we all seem to love. For the record: Johnny has never put himself in the country gendre.
I had a great front row seat and from this vantage point I could clearly see that when the lady with the white rose handed up the flower to Johnny his eyes were closed. He feels the passion each time he sings his songs that he writes, he was bent over while performing this song but that in no way means that he saw the lady. Maybe she did feel unrecognized but that wasn`t intentional on Johnny`s part, I assure you.
I was near you in the lobby at intermission when I heard you loudly proclaim that you were leaving and not returning, again you told the lady this same thing as you weren`t needing your ticket scanned for re-entry. I felt shocked when I heard this and there were audible gasps from the surrounding people. The buzz was that the show would only get even better and that it was sad that you were going to miss the next set.....without giving yourself to the entire show before forming an opinion. Yes- it appeared your mind was set and I thank-you for not sticking around longer. I wouldn`t have been able to hear anymore negativity without getting nearer and having a chat with you.
Johnny is the most humble person I know and extremely grateful to his fans. He gives us 110% of his energy and what free time he can spare. Since you disagree on all aspects of him, I kindly think you should give your membership to someone that would truly appreciate it.

Faith, I read your post and decided I wasn't going to reply because I feel that Johnny and his immense talent don't need to be justified. Unfortunuately, I can't seem to keep it off my mind. First, you must have skipped out on the childhood lesson of "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." Why come here nearly a week after the concert with nothing good to say when you know everyone here is going to feel the opposite? Anyway, You say you own Johnny's CD and listened to it? Could you not tell from that that (or even the photos in the cover) he's not the old-time type of country artist? Could you not tell that his music doesn't even really carry a country sound? Why would you expect a concert to be different from that at all? Onto Johnny's apparent cockiness: Are you sure you were at the right concert? Johnny and cocky are two words I would never put anywhere in the same sentence (expect this one). I've seen and met Johnny many times over the last few years and he is always the farthest thing from cocky. Like Pam, I've seen a lot of concerts and met a lot of artists. Johnny is one of the nicest and most caring there is. Not only does he remember names, but he remembers things about people and takes the time to ask about them when he meets someone. It's too bad that you were apparently too busy critiquing the show to actually take any time to enjoy it. |

I got my fan club package in the mail the other day so I am now an official member of the Tartan Army. I got tickets to a show in March but since I was late on this one I am in the first row of the balcony so no more "lap dances" for me. But what an introduction to your first Johnny Reid concert. How will I...or should I say...he...ever top this. LOL |
